Place the spatula against the cervix.

Rotate the spatula one time to scrape cell material.

A. Liquid-Based Pap Preparation
1. Insert the Spatula into the vial with preservative fluid and follow the instruction given by the manufacturer of the Pap Preparation method.

2. Reseal the vial.

B. Traditional Pap Preparation
1. Transfer the cell material to the slide with a painting action, first one side, then the other.

2. Immediately, apply fixative to the slide.
